Driving Sustainability Through Innovation

Juan Albarracin-Jordan

Antropologist, PhD

Environmental Management

I have over two decades of experience integrating social and environmental components into projects in the extractive, energy, infrastructure, and water and sanitation sectors. In these projects I addressed risks and impacts on Indigenous peoples’ rights, cultural heritage, involuntary resettlement, pollution prevention and resource efficiency, and community health, safety, and security. At the policy level, I have significantly contributed to preparing various Development Policy Loans (DPL) in Latin America and the Caribbean, notably the largest World Bank DPL granted to Colombia in 2018.

As a social and environmental standards technical advisor at UNDP, I supported several country offices, providing oversight and quality assurance to ensure compliance with human rights principles and social and environmental standards.

I possess excellent writing and editing skills in English and Spanish.
I have authored six books, numerous peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and guidance notes for the World Bank, IAIA, and UNDP.
I hold a B.A. in Anthropology from the University of North Texas and a Ph.D. in Anthropology from Southern Methodist University.
